“Those times were violent. But also very glam with great music! Glass fights. Now it's plastic cups. Booze was cheap. But we couldn't get in wearing trainers. We all had to wear shooooes and the boys had to wear a tie. If they weren't, the door staff had a box of ties, the boys could pick one and 'borrow' for the night.
West St was a hot spot for the football hooliganism culture in Brighton at the time. I remember us bar girls (I would say 'staff' nowadays but we were just girls only and we all had blonde hair!) had to be escorted from the bar straight into a taxi by the doormen when we were headed home after a shift. We had free pass lanyard cards for taxis though. Wild when you look back on it! But strangely, the good times were wonderfully decadent and friendly, full of laughter, fantastic clubs all around town, brilliant music, fashion and endless cocktails, dancing, and after-parties’ Photo and Text Honour Misson.
